Software working out of the Box with SAMBA 4

The following software is working out of the box when used with Samba 4 instead of an Active Directory.
Important Note: The article goes through the installation of software that utilizes features of Active Directory (AD) subsituting the AD functionality using UCS with Samba 4.
Please note that Univention does not provide support for the software, nor does Univention offer the described software or parts of it, e.g. the Active Directory schema. Generic information
UCS provides an Active Directory compatible domain contoller based on Samba 4. Compatiblity to Active Directory is part of the product functionality, for details see the product documentation.
The software described here was choosen randomly based on experiences in projects with UCS to give examples of often used services.
For some environments the Active Directory Connection offers alternative scenarios to integrate or synchronize with MS Active Directory.

Microsoft Exchange
Currently Exchange is running fine in smaller environments.

- SMTP and IMAP connection from Thunderbird
- MAPI Connections using MS Outlook

Note: The Exchange Management Console might not work so Exchange administration is only possible through command line.
Not Supported Versions
Exchange 2013 SP1 requires the LDAP control LDAP_SERVER_NOTIFICATION_OID which is currently not implemented in Samba 4. This functionality is planned at a later point in time. Until then, the Univention Active Directory Connector can be used to connect Exchange 2013 SP1 with the UCS domain.
